The Commission on Geophysical Risk and Sustainability (GeoRisk Commission), in partnership with International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), has been awarded an International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) Grant for the project entitled Advanced Seminar on Forensic Investigations of Disasters (FORIN). This project will be conducted to disseminate the concept of the FORIN methodology. It is intended that this research paradigm will be further developed and adopted as a global standard approach to identify and examine the underlying root causes of disasters in order to reduce impacts and losses caused by disasters and to maintain the sustainability of socio-economic and environmental development.
The main outcomes that are expected from this project are:
- recommendations and contribution to the improvement of the existing FORIN methodology
- explanation and promotion of the new integrated perspectives, advanced concepts and methodologies on disaster risk research
- preliminary FORIN research agenda for the next 3-5 years
- the development of extended FORIN Network and Forum
IUGG considers that the grant will promote a close cooperation between IUGG bodies and IRDR as well as with researchers dealing with disaster risk research.
