IRDR Germany DKKV releases project results from flood prevention research

On 19 February, the University of Potsdam and the German Committee for Disaster Reduction in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences released the project results from the research “Flood 2013” in Berlin, Germany.  At the event, a practice-oriented synthesis report was summarized which was accompanied by a lecture and a poster exhibition showcasing current issues in flood research. The event also opened opportunity to discuss the future direction of flood prevention and disaster response with representatives from science and practice.

The DKKV is designated by the German Government the National Platform for disaster reduction. It also serves as the German Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) focal point institution. As such it serves as focal point and information hub for organizations and initiatives involved in disaster reduction and promotes the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action. It is also a center of expertise in all matters relating to national and international disaster reduction issues.

In November 2010 ICSU nominated DKKV as National Commission in Germany for the International Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme.
