IRDR’s Djillali Benouar gave a presentation on “African Higher Education Institutions in Advancing Disaster Risk Reduction: A model for post-2015 capacity-building” during the IGNITE Stage Multi-Stakeholder Segment of the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan. The event was held last 15 March and was jointly organised by University of Science & Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB) and Periperi U.
The Periperi U consortium (Partners Enhancing Resilience to People Exposed to Risks) is IRDR International Centre of Excellence for Risk Education and Learning (IRDR ICoE-REaL). PeriPeri U underlines the value of harnessing the continent’s higher education institutions in advancing disaster risk reduction by drawing on accomplishments of the consortium in strengthening human capacity in the disaster risk domain.
Djillali is the Director of Built Environment Research Laboratoy in the University of Bab Ezzouar, Algiers and currently serves as an IRDR Science Committee member.
