The Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, in partnership with IRDR co-sponsor ICSU (Regional Office), organised the 4th International Tsunami Symposium in March in Phuket, Thailand, on 23 – 27 March 2015.
This symposium I the fourth in a series of events, held once in 3 to 5 years, to disseminate the latest advances in the science of tsunamis and integrate scientific findings with disaster mitigation efforts. The purpose is to share research findings and new insights tsunami science, technology and disaster mitigation.
The major topics of this year’s symposium were :
- Science: Tectonophysics, impact to marine and coastal ecosystem, sedimentology and geomorphology
- Technology: Modeling and assessing hazards, risk evaluation damage estimation and detection, remote sensing and GIS
- Disaster Mitigation: Structural and non-structural countermeasures, disaster, preparedness and education
