Under the title “Crisis Management / Disaster Response”, the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK: Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe) is organizing from 20 July to 31 July 2015 the 7th International BBK Summer Academy. Hosted by the Academy for crisis management, emergency planning and civil protection at a scenic location in the vicinity of the former capital city Bonn, the summer academy promotes interdisciplinary approaches among practitioners. The approaches chosen seek to connect the five institutional pillars of public security management (e.g., civil protection, police services, army, secret services, as well as the economy / corporate sector and civil society). The academy will work through a number of actor-based scenarios, looking at crisis from the vantage points of actors as diverse as mayors, business leaders and ministerial decision-makers. The theory and practice of new approaches to crisis management will be explored through lectures and practical exercises in both German and English. Previous summer academies have attracted more than 500 students from 40+ countries.
