Open Ceremony of DBAR International Training Workshop

International Training Workshop on Integrated Risk Assessment Methods Using Spatial and Social Vulnerability Data for Disaster Risk Reduction opened on Dec 11, 2017 at RADI Sanya Campus.

This workshop will provide a scientific and practical guide on DRR to the participants from developing countries along Belt and Road with the objective of strengthening national research capacities to enable informed decision-making in different aspects of disaster risk reduction. 22 young researchers from 15 countries participated this workshop and 8 of them are IRDR Young Scientists.

The open ceremony was chaired by Prof. CHEN Fang, the Executive Deputy Director of SDIM. Prof. GUO Huadong (Director, SDIM), Dr. XIE Qinglin (Vice Mayor of Sanya City), Prof. Yoo Hang Kim (President, AASSA), Mr. HAN Qunli (Executive Director, IRDR IPO) were invited as distinguish guests and delivered the opening remarks.

Prof. GUO pointed out that DRR is one of DBAR Programme thematic working groups. The integrated research on Earth Observation and social vulnerability data responds to the need of implementation of Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework of DRR to achieve SDGs in the countries along the B&R region.

Mr. HAN emphasized that IRDR values the capacity building of young scientists when aware of their excellent performance and marvelous potential. This is the 2nd time that IRDR worked with DBAR Initiative to co-organised an international training workshop. IRDR will provide more training programmes with its partners and ICoEs.

After the open ceremony, Mr. HAN started the first class of the training workshop with a lecture of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk and its Linkage to DBAR DRR.
