The Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas (University of Science and Arts of Chiapas) in Mexico will be hosting an international workshop on forensic investigations of disasters (FORIN) associated with landslides from 24 June to 5 July 2013.
The main objective of the Workshop is to share the FORIN methodology proposed by the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme with its participants in order to understand the complex and underlying causes of disasters. The course is directed at young scientists and students from all disciplines related to the field of disaster risk reduction.
Participants will be expected to apply the FORIN methodology through case studies in different Latin-American countries.
The Workshop is sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Geographical Union (IGU). It is supported by the ICSU’s IRDR programme, the ICSU Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ICSU-ROLAC), the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), the International Consortium on Landslides, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the University of Florida, the University of Sciences and Art of Chiapas, and the National Centre for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED).
